More Christmas

Good morning my special peeps, how are you? It's another blog hopping day here in PKMLand and its all about a special gift or decoration day. Here's my special gift and decoration, my cool vintage snowman. Frankie gave me this wonderful old plastic vintage snowman last year and I love him. I can't wait to get him out. Of course my kid ornaments are my favorite, the school days crafts are the best, and over the years they've always been on the tree in spite of the teenage eye rolling. I'm pretty sure if those ornaments weren't on the tree, I'd be hearing about it!

Thank you thank you for all the wonderful comments yesterday!!! All so thoughtful and enthusiastic. Late last night Bret picked a number and I counted and Annemarie is the winner...

"What a fun Christmas Blog Hop. Thanks for the Coffee mat pattern - would love to win a prize - I LOVE COFFEE TOO!!! Annemarie."
Well Annemarie, its your lucky day! Email me your snail mail address and I'll get your prize packed up and in the mail. Thanks again to Elizabeth and Alex for the lovely additions.
Today is Kari's day of the blog hop... hop on over and see what she's up to! See you tomorrow!

Oh my word - I remember this snowman!!! I think Mom still has hers back home.

Yes, we still put up the kids' craft ornies from over the years. Oh, yes, some are taped and glued back together but I'd have it no other way.

It goes completely against my usual taste in decorating, but I have such an aching love for those plastic, light-up figures... the snowmen and Santas. They just transport my heart and soul to childhood and the total submersion in to fantasy and magic that Christmas brought me.

Love your snowman. I found one of those Santas at a garage sale last year but I was with my husband. He looked into his wallet and said "oh we can't get him, I have no cash" Later we got home and I thought to look in his wallet. Ummm.... busted! But I love them!

Kids sure do have uncanny memories if we "forget" an ornament, but can they remember that Monday is trash night? Or that the kitty litter needs changed every other day? Somehow, I don't think it is a matter of "memory," do you?

Love your snowman. Friends of ours have a 4' one that lights up and is very reminiscent of the 50's and it isn't Christmas until they light up their snowman.

Your vintage snowman is just the best Pam!! I adore my coffe as well, in fact am drinking and blog surfing right now! And I hear you about those ornaments - only my oldest is a teenager, but even the younger ones (11 and 8) sometimes think there are certain ornaments that should just be left in the box. I know they would secretly miss them, but sometimes it's just not cool to admit it!

I love the kid crafted ornaments. I am actually trying to figure out a cute and easy ornament or two for kids from Kindergarten to grade 8 could make. Something that doesn't take more than half an hour. Any ideas?

We had this snowman for years when I lived at home with my parents. One year he died and wouldn't light up anymore, but we still put him up outside. Then after so many years the plastic shattered and cracked and my mom sent him to the big Christmas dump in the sky. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I still have all the kids' ornaments too! One is a little Christmas tree made from that salt dough the kids make.
I have had to glue it back together a couple of times, but love to see it on the tree!

Thanks for sharing

Well, here is my Special Decoration story. Once upon a time, before I learned how to say "no," I was the auctioneer every year for this group I belonged to. Everybody would bring things to be auctioned, we would all pay too much to buy the stuff, and the money all went to charity. My friend "Ellen" brought a plastic talking Santa that she bought at Costco and another member "Sandy" bought it for about 3x what you would pay retail. She loved it; go figure.

Some time later, "Ellen" found out that the Santa was being recalled because it had an unfortunate tendency to catch fire unexpectedly. We never mentioned it to "Sandy." But we did check the papers daily every Christmas season to see if there were any fires, uh, anywhere.

My favorite Christmas decoration is also from my husband. We liked to cruise antique and second-hand shops, and I came across Mr.& Mrs. Santa Claus on a teeter-totter that moved as it played a seasonal tune. I gleefully laughed, said I loved it, and he picked it up, turned on heel, and headed for the counter to pay. Wow. Note: the same response from me has not worked on other items. : )
