So Tell Me...

Just how cute are these handles? Nireko brought them back for me from Japan and I love them. And how perfect are they with my favorite fabric? Uh, super perfect I think. Which leads me to this question.. if you're shopping for purse patterns, do specialty handles put you off? I know a lot of quilt shops don't carry them, but they are available on line. My purse patterns use fabric handles but sometimes I'd like to branch out a little. And you know, with these handles you can see why!
So I would love to know what you think peeps. Your opinions are important to me!

Those handles are just the cutest, and will make your bag special. I like variety in my handles, as long as they are comfortable (not just cute) on the arm. Those look like winners!

Sooo jealous of your new handles!! I like using specialty handles but nix nix on the beaded ones, they role right off your shoulder. Once you use specialty, you get hooked. Hunting for new ones is half the fun!

Ditto that, specialty handles make some bags just that much more awesome...I agree on the beaded ones although I am not opposed to some beaded bling dangling (oMG did I say bling? don't let my pre-teen see lol)

Nicest fabric-handle combination...EVER! Something that darling would never turn me off to a pattern...in fact it would MAKE me buy it!

Oh those are to die for!!! I don't think specialty handles turn me off- I actually like the sturdiness of using them- so I say use them in your patterns, maybe just reference where we can get them!
Can't wait to see what with that gorgeous fabric and those adorable handles!

That is THE most cutest pairing ever!

I would have to have THAT fabric and THOSE handles in my hot little hands in order to make opinion.

I like making a bag start to finish using just fabric and what I can make within my four walls of sewing room chaos. BUT... with handles like these... I want to make purses with handles. If shops started carrying cute stuff like those handles... YES I would buy them and use them.

I think listing specialty handles as an option is great. And also listing sources where they can be found. Those handles are smashing with that fabric. Sewing those on are a bit tricky, I've done it a time or two, but who could resist them!?

OK, for those handles I would do just about anything. I have used cloth, but these take the cake!
How do you "install" them?

First off, those handles are ridiculously cute. So cute. Then onto your question, I make a lot of bags. I buy a lot of patterns for purses and totes. Except in my earliest sewing days which did not turn out well, I have only purchased 1 with specialty handles and I have never made them. I think it is because on a whim, I cannot just start sewing the thing with stash...I have to plan ahead. And most of the time, I get the itch for a new purse "in the moment". I hope that makes sense. Mostly I like to make my own, I guess....then I can play with the length, etc. But what would be cool is if a pattern had a choice of making handles or using pre-made...a girl likes choices.

If handles like that were easier to find I would use them. That is a great combo!

Pam, where do you buy yours online? I found a place in New Jersey but I wasn't thrilled with them.

And yes, I would love to have polka dots on my sewing bag! ;0

Bring on the polkie handles! Plain specialty handles don't do anything for me, but those polkies are amazing!

Oh, bring on the specialty handles, sister! I am ALL ABOUT THE SPECIALTY HANDLES.

Now, about those red polka-dot ones. I don't have any red polka-dot ones, and I just want to know one thing. When are you leaving your house next, and how long will you be gone?

By the way, did you know that polka dots are a specific (oh, never mind!). :)

OMG!! I purchased those exact handles (and a black polka dot set) at the Tokyo show and had forgotten all about them. Where'd I put them?!!
This type of specialty handle is hugely popular in Japan right now. There were many vendors who carried them at the Festival.

Those are seriously cute handles, but I would just buy them to look at them. I don't buy patterns calling for pre-made handles. I don't care for the hard ones. The stars (and the fabrics) would have to align for me to use them.

Oh those are just fab! No speciality handles wouldn't put me off... while there is an extra cost, sometimes when I get to the tedius handle turning I would be happy to have a ready made handle to use plus the nice rolled ones are far more comfortable than most fabric handles.

Yes, specialty handles can and do "make" a bag! Found a pair of lime green Lucite handles at a fabric shop in NYC and just had to buy lime green fabric to make a tote bag. Oh, I had to buy the lining and some thread and then I saw some more fabric and pink handles..... you know how it goes!

Those are awesome handles and perfect for that fabric. I don't mind if speciality handles are used on a bag as long as a source is given. Have fun making that bag - and may the sun shine!
