Primrose Friday

Good morning!  I actually have a Friday Finish!  This sweet pink Primrose quilt is bound and ready to be wrapped around a sweet baby.  (quilt pattern from the Fat Quarter Style book)

The pattern is fast and fun and I enjoyed making it.  I hope it's used and loved by the little baby it's for.

It's been a fun week, I hope you had a good one as well.  We had the tiniest amount of rain and the temperatures have turned cooler. It always seems as if one day is 90 and then the next is 70. It's a nice time of year. Here anyway.. I 've heard from friends they've already had a dusting of snow.  I find it hard to believe when I haven't even put on a sweater yet.

Do you have big weekend plans?  Nothing much going on here. A little of this, a little of that.  You know, the regular. Have a great weekend!  See you next week! xo

Studio days

Hi there!  I'm late off the mark here this week. Not that I have a ton to share, but I keep waiting till to late in the day to take photos.  These short days have crept  up on me, so it's too dark for good photography in the mid afternoon.

Yesterday I went to Holly's to work on some projects with her, and of course was inspired by all the blocks on her wall using her scallops.  They look like candy!  And those cute cakes. Well so much fun inspiration using her scallop fabrics.  Sorry for the phone photos.. I didn't have my regular camera on me yesterday.

Sunrise Studio

The weather was glorious.  Cool and breezy.  I loved looking over at the city, like a beautiful island sitting on a little bed of fog.

The view from here

It's the perfect time of year, still sunny and warm, but not so warm you can't enjoy sitting outside for lunch.  We ate down at the harbor, so you could enjoy the boats and the water!  And I was still home to beat most of the traffic.  Perfection!

Hope you're off to a good start this week.  Did you see a lot of great photos from Quilt Market? I didn't attend in real life but the photos on Facebook and Instagram were great.  Hope everyone had a great show.

Ok, better get cracking.. I'm far too lazy these days! xo

Cozy Cottage

Hi there peoples!  How was your week?  I had a busy happy sewing week.  I dropped some quilts off to be quilted over the weekend and it was a huge load off my mind.  For now anyway.

Cozy Cottage

Did you order a Cozy Cottage Calendar?  I couldn't resist, I love all the photos and it's just the right set of colors each month.  I still use the old fashioned kitchen calendar method of organizing the family.  Not that anyone else has paid much attention to it over the years, but I keep track of birthdays and appointments and that kind of thing. I've saved all the old calendars and often have to refer back to them for information.  When I was working my first job out of college  I made the mistake of tossing my work calendar at the first of the year, which was basically a work felony.  YIKES.  WORK JAIL.

But as usual I digress.  I wasn't paying attention when I was cutting and cut out the 4 inch cottage block instead of the 8 inch.  I couldn't let it go to waste, so I stitched it up. Now I want to make a bunch of them. They're so cute and tiny. Will I actually do it? Who knows.

Hope you have a fun weekend everybody. xo

Cherry Baskets

Hi Happy Monday!  Yesterday it actually felt  a bit like fall.. ok not cold, but cooler and there were lots of leaves and the slightest hint there might be rain.  I mean, no actual rain at all,  but still.  It seemed fall like.  Then we had a bbq, which isn't at all fall!

Anyway, today I want to share this beautiful quilt by my friend Kanako. It was hanging in the PIQF show this past week end. I had met Kanako and  Keiko for lunch earlier this year and Kanako was telling  me at that time about a quilt she'd designed using Pam Kitty Garden.

Kanako and Cherry Basket

Here she is with her quilt.  She and Keiko had made Farmers Market Totes as well, hers coordinates with her quilt. So cute!

Kanako's Quilt

You can read about her inspiration here.

Kanako's Quilt

I love the and quilted motifs in the setting squares, as well as the hand quilted (in blue) scallops.  Those Irish chain  pieces are 1 inch finished square I believe.   And those bits of yellow that brighten up the chains.. inspired.  I love everything about it.

Kanako's Quilt

I think one of the best things about having  fabric is seeing how other people use it in their own creations.  I'm inspired by how people combine fabrics and colors in ways that I didn't imagine.

Thanks to Kanako and Keiko for sending me photos to share with you.

Here's to a fine week for all of us! Happy sewing! xo

Snapshots Gone Surfin'

Hi there! It's Snapshots day and this month is the Gone Surfin' block!  Super cute right?  This block was fast and fun to make.  I grew up on a steady diet of beach movies with Sandra Dee and Annette Funicello and living in California  cars with surfboards were a regular sight in the summer.  Everyone would head over to Santa Cruz for beach parties and surfing.. just like in the movies.

SnapShots Car

Ok yeah, everyone didn't include me, I wasn't that cool, but I did see a lot of cars with surfboards, and you still do year round when you head over to Santa Cruz.

SnapShots Car

I can't believe we're on the last row of our quilt!  Exciting right?  I really enjoy seeing everyone's blocks.  So many cute fabric and color combinations!

Ok, you know the drill!  Head on over to the Fat Quarter Shop video to see how to make your own cute block!  Then download your pattern and get stitchin!

Monday

Hi there!  It's Monday, do you have big plans for the week?  I have a little project all cut out, and I should sit down later today and get stitching away on it.  I can show it to you a little later.  Yes, it's one of  those kinds of projects.

Deadlines have a way of keeping me on track with things.  I've noticed that since I'm not driven by the relentless school based schedule of my hands-on mom days my laissez-faire attitude is out of control.
Plans for the week?  I think I'll sew, and maybe try to get a grip on getting this place in a little more order.  Maybe.  I'll check in later and let you know.   We're starting the week off hot and so far summer has sucked the life out of me.

TGIF

Hi there Happy Friday!  Did you have a great week?  Busy here, and really it went by in a blur.  Yesterday afternoon I was under the mistaken impression it was only Wednesday!  What's with that? I don't know where I lost a day this week.  I guess I was a little over impressed with my accomplishments.

Snapshots Quilt

I think my most exciting accomplishment was turning my Snapshots blocks into a quilt top!  I know so many people in the quilt along are already done and I definitely felt the pressure. I think it was in July that I first saw Sherri had sashing on her blocks already and by September I'm pretty sure I  saw some rows sewn.  Yikes. So I finished up.  Just waiting on backing now, then it's off to be quilted. Honestly I'm pretty relieved.  I'm not the sewing maniac I used to be.

Any big plans this weekend?   Nothing much here, just trying to stay out of trouble!  Have a good one you guys! xo

Tuesday

Hi there!  Off to a late start this week.  We got Frankie's furniture moved and somewhat situated this weekend.  Ended up going both days and it was fun.  I can't wait till we can go and not have to do any work!

Primrose

It will probably surprise you, I finished the Primrose quilt!  I think it's pretty cute and girly baby.  I need to put some backing together and get it quilted... the baby is due anyday!  Do I like the light background more?  I think I just like it different than Sarah's.

Ok, short and sweet today.  The house is a bit of a wreck and I need to try and tame some of the chaos.  Hope your week is off to a great start!  xo

TGIF

Hi there!  How did your week go?  It was the usual around here, up until we had RAIN RAIN RAIN! Friends, I can't even tell you how great that was!  RAIN!  So week=made with that.

Primrose

I also got some fabric cut out.  I'm making  the Primrose quilt from the Fat Quarter Style, it's cute, it comes in a variety of sizes, and I'll be needing a baby quilt soon, I have a friend having her first grand baby and this seemed like the perfect thing.

Primrose

My friend Sarah made this quilt recently and I liked her version, but she wasn't loving it.  I get that, sometimes in your head it just seems like it should turned out cuter.   I really do like her version, and I like it even more going back and looking at it today.  I decided to give it a try in a light background, so I'll see if I like it better.  I might just like it differently, not necessarily better.  Light backgrounds are in my comfort zone, and it seemed more babyish to me.. so I went that direction.  But I'm loving the navy in the book version.

I'll let you know how it turns out.  This weekend we're moving the remaining furniture to Frankie's.  So next week I'll be all about the Aleve.

OHMYGOSH!  Final bit of business I almost forgot!  The winner of the Splash of Color blog hop is Melody Lutz who said " Blogger These ate MY kind of quilts...no fear of COLOR! "  Please email me Melody so I can forward your information along and you can receive your e-copy!

Ok, everyone, have a great weekend! xo
