The One where I'm Insane
A couple of weeks ago I was blogging around and happened to come across a post about a store in Seattle called Daiso. There were the obligatory photos of the goods purchased and it looked like stuff from a store Monica had been telling me about, a Japanese Dollar store.
You know, kind of like a crack house for Hello Kitty Lovers.
I was pretty much hyperventilating when I found out there was one, in fact a brand new one, in Daly City, which is not all that far from me. Well, an hour but still, who WOULDN'T drive an hour to go to Daiso. I mean the blogging possibilities alone are worth it.
But then I kind of forgot about it for a week, and my free day had passed and I couldn't believe on Sunday morning that I hadn't remembered to go to the Daiso store. So Frankie, taking pity on her obviously pitiful mother, said "lets go". I'm really not a lets go kind of person at 1:30 in the afternoon but what the heck? I mean really WHAT THE HECK?
So we went. Frankie took the photos and most were kind of blurry as she tried to rein me in. Seriously, I don't know why she was trying to take all these serupticious photos because people had cameras out like crazy taking photos in front of the store and of each other in the store. I have a ton of blurry photos so seriously, I'll be doing it again. I was OHMYGOSHING from the moment I stepped in the door. I have never ever seen so much darling cute amazing stuff.
Here's our haul.
So I ask you, who doesn't want a cat bed that looks like a strawberry? I almost want to get a cat just so I can get one. And I'm allergic! And the little paper products and baking good stuff, I mean I don't even know what to call it or what to do with it but OMG I want it so bad I could weep. Cupcake cups for the tiniest cupcakes ever, in all kinds of darling patterns. And plastic, there's a whole room of colorful plastic stuff. And those tiny lunch boxes, with tiny little chopsticks inside.. like I'll ever take mine out of the package in the first place. Frankie is using hers for lunch. Did you hear me, SHE'S USING IT.
So there you go people. Now you can see just how crazy I am.
(You can turn away now, the spectical is over.)

I so need a fix after seeing/reading this. I'm drooling and breathing heavy. Not just a crack house for Hello Kitty lovers... more like a porn shop!
A "crack house for Hello Kitty lovers" that's too funny! Sounds like you had a ton of fun.
Now, you must, please, show a picture of the small lunch box with tiny chopsticks. Please!
hey, did you know?
i'm available for adoption. really, i am.
Oh my oh my oh my. If Max ever stepped foot in this place I would never drag him out again. As much of a butch boy as he is, he is a sucker for tiny Japanese things.
Maybe I should a tiny lunch box too if it will prevent me from eating so much. That must be the secret to those thin Japanese ladies: tiny lunch boxes!
(Never mind that they only eat lean fish and rice and vegetables and no pastries!)
"Hello Kitty" stuff -- that just cracks me up -- my sister and I also have a friend "Kit" or "Kitty" who often takes notes on her "Hello Kitty" notepad -- very professional in a meeting! You certainly hit the mother lode of "Hello Kitty" stuff -- good for you! How fun!

Uh oh! I think you are going off the deep end PKM : ) Plastic & kitty lover.
I think I will have to do a map search. I see a visit to Daly City in our furture. I have a 17 year old that will just about pass out in that store. And I will admit I am just as bad.
Totally off topic... I see your favicon in your bloglines!
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hey... I went to Kinokuniya today. No big score, just a few embroidery books. No "little" books, other then the ones we have already. Would have been more fun with you... Team Testosterone didn't want me to linger longer then I already did.
And now I must nap.
Monica...save yourself, and this summer we can make a trip to Seattle to hit this porn shop! And IKEA, too!! By the way, Pam, I WANT A STRAWBERRY KITTY HOUSE TOO, and I'm allergic to kitties also! :)
My daughter lives in Japan and every trip I take there sounds like your visit to Daiso. (I'm REALLY laughing out loud, sitting here at the computer.)
I'm usually exhausted when I get home. No wonder, huh?
Oh that store looks like fun! You think they would open one in Norway?? Maybe I'll just have to get a plane ticket and do some serious shopping... :)
Oh Pam!
The Daiso store looks like too much fun. It reminds me of my trips to Japan, attending craft and quilt shows. Oh the packaging and pretty colors. Be still my heart!

I love Daiso! I went to the one in Daily City just recently, and I felt like I'd found the golden ticket and was allowed into the chocolate factory... but for tiny, adorable, what-the-heck-is-that-for, Japanese stuff! And (most) everything was $1.50!
OMG guess what? Hubby is going to take me to Daiso while we are driving from Napa. WOO HOO I can't wait!!!
By the way I love that bag you made you and Elizabeth for market. IT is to die for. Very very cute. Both of them.
The labels you made are the cutest ever.
