More!
The town of Astoria is just darling. I could drive up and down the streets all day. I mean Livermore isn't half as cute and I still drive around downtown looking at the old houses and the things people are doing to them. I love the kinds of lush gardening you can get going on in a coastal town. I know I'd crack under the pressure of little or no real sun but people, it's all about the fantasy. And who needs sunny days when you can pass your time with the likes of Moncia!
I know Brenda would have cracked under the pressure but I paid an extra $7 to have a river view here at the Holiday Inn. Non-stop Astoria-Megler bridge right outside our window. It was worth every penny.
Nothing tastes better than breakfast at the Pig'N Pancake. Good coffee, good pancakes, good friends.
Here we go over the bridge. The tide was way out and you could see the Desdemona Sands.
We stopped by to visit Karen at her studio. Holy Cow people. What a place. I took a million blurry photos it was so exciting. Karen loves orange and aqua. Nothing says comfy like this chair!
Here's Karen showing me how to work her Elna.
And her troll house. The roof is pointy so they don't have to take their hats off. I love that.
Cranberry bogs.
Loot from Anna Lena's. Yummy huh? Not as tasty as the fudge!
The shop. Gee, could I have gotten a crummier photo? Don't think so.
You can drive on the beach in Long Beach Washington, but don't park there!
More cozy homes.
Off to Moncia's, turn right after the goat.
Watch out for traffic congestion.
Moncia has tons better photos on her blog, so check there. Mine were just too blurry, because well, it was so exciting to look at every little bit. These are bits that I didn't see on her blog.
More bridge. This little sail boat dilly dallied its way under the bridge, dropped it's sail and then changed to another one.
This tug just came back from taking a barge out to the ocean. So. Very. Cool.
I can't believe I didn't get a photo of the wonderful Mexican restaurant we ate at TWICE.. or pictures of ourselves with Moncia. I had the best time and really wish it wasn't a million miles between our town and Moncia. Because I would so be there later this week.Tuesday, June 03, 2008
A little vacation
After quilt market Elizabeth and I took a couple of days to relax wandering around Oregon and Washington. First stop after checking out of our lovely hotel was Monticello Antiques. HOLY COW people. Holy cow. I had seen photos of this place on Alicia's blog ages ago and was wowed, but nothing could prepare me for how good this place was. Elizabeth and I both just want to back a trailer up and load it. I have a love for old rusty garden furniture and this place was crammed with it. Wow is just all I can say. Wow. And this is just the back porch.
After that we went to Elizabeth's choices and she can tell you more about them. I'm still wowed by my choice of places. We did lots of wandering through neighborhoods, finding house after perfect little house.. it was a day dreamy day. After our last stop we headed up through Washington, over the Lewis and Clark Bridge and back to Oregon on our way to Monica's! Yeah, how lucky were we, getting to see Monica in her natural habitat!
Oregon is chock full of miles of this.
Miles and miles.
This is the Astoria-Megler Bridge. I have probably 100 photos of it. You'll be seeing more soon, so prepare yourself.
Monica took us for a long drive. Elizabeth and I really enjoy just driving and looking out the window at pretty houses and neighborhoods and Monica really indulged us.
Now look at that, a funny little in the road stop sign. I had never seen that before. You just drive right over it. Weird. And cool.

Just look how cute the detail is on that little fence. Seriously, my imaginary cottage has that.

More pretty houses with details and trellises.
The view from the hill, over looking the Columbia River. Magnificent.
Monica, driving us. What fun she is. Seriously. We're like peas in a pod.
The Astoria Column.
The house from the Goonies.
Monica's Safeway. I know when she says "I went to the market" I'll know exactly what that looks like.
Ok more photos tomorrow. I know, it sounds a little bit like a threat, doesn't it?
