I love people

Here is the first of a couple of people installments.. you know how I love meeting and greeting the peoples! Here's Kris and Mary Anne from Cozy Cottage Fabrics. You'll see a lot of Late Bloomer in her shop!!

Here's Jenny from Tula Pink, she designs for Moda. I totally LOVE her, she's funny and charming and I'll totally be telling everyone I know Tula Pink as well as the Urban Chiks.

Ahh, and my friend Darlene Zimmerman. We stalked I mean saw her a lot this trip. I just love her. I was at her book signing in the Krause booth, and got a signed copy of her latest book, Quilts from Lavender Hill Farm.

Sample Spree

Monica has some crazy pictures about sample spree over at her blog, so you should check it out. Ignore those rumors about me. Seriously, I'm the picture of decorum.

I have no idea what's in this box but let me tell you, there's a lot of stuff that gets moved up into that Sample Spree Ballroom. As usual we had safe legal passage into the room, thanks to Brenda.

Brenda hand dyes some beautiful wool. This is my only clear picture, all others are slightly blurry and you can't see just how lovely it all is. The colors are so pretty. I could eat them. But I won't.

Here is Kathy and one of her crew, Sandra. I'll be talking more about Kathy in another post.

Here are our old neighbors Sherri and Paul from This and That. Super nice. Their beautiful Minnesota home was featured in a recent American Patchwork and Quilting issue. Wow is all I can say. (And let me add they beat us out the door again!)

Here's Vicki Bellino from Bloom Creek. Her quilts are so pretty. She also treated us to a little bloggy shophopping lately, so check it out!

I'm dying over the darling outfits the girls from the Threaded Pear were wearing. The dress version is super cute and way more me.. being denim and all.


Everyone had done some cute work on the front as well. I cropped this because the picture wasn't flattering (and you can trust me to not show an unflattering picture) , but I had to show the darling design. Each of them had a little something different. I apologize for the lack of names here.. no badges to read!


One of these bags of fabric goodness is mine! We fell in love with the new line Cottage Romance by WillowBerry Lane with Maywood Studios. We weren't the only one believe me.. this seems to be what a lot of designers were buying. Even people who design their own fabric lined up with us. Everyone was going NUTS over the scallop stripe but I was CRAZY for the Sprigs.. you know my love a printed background.


Last but surely not least are the girls from Mary's Cottage Quilts. Mary was all over the place and we didn't see her during Sample spree. She's got some great people with her!


It was a great time. More of my stuff later..

Day 1 and 2 Quilt Market

Good Morning! I'm starting the fun out with some photos from the drive. Spring was good to us this year, no snow on the road, just on the mountains. Like we like it!

Mount Shasta couldn't be any prettier.


We had some problems finding a good place to eat. We did stop here.. and it was interesting. The people couldn't have been nicer. Let's leave it at that.

We drove without incident all the way to Springfield Oregon where we found the most delightful antique store. Elizabeth has the name of it..we had a great time there, lots of goodies and we both found something. I haven't unearthed anything I bought yet. Bounty to follow on another day.

We dropped off all the stuff at the convention center. Man, was it ever hot in Portland. Thank goodness we had a lovely room at the Heathman. What a grand hotel that is. I think Elizabeth and I had the nicest room there, others had some complaints about a/c and um, plumbing (yikes) but it was lovely. Simply lovely.

My favorite part was the Peets and French Press. And why didn't I know how fast an electric tea kettle works? Seriously people. Wow.

And wow.. what about those headboards and the mural outside our window. Room with a View my friends.

We had a good celebrity siting while hanging out front of ballroom. HOLY COW its Jennifer Paganelli. How much do we love her? She could not be any warmer and more friendly.

How cool are we all taking each others photos? Ok, we're dorks. But you love us anyway, right?

Hi Ya Peoples!

Back from market last night. HOLY COW that's a long drive. After market we headed over to the Oregon coastal town of Astoria.. that's right MONICA'S TOWN. Anyway got in the car at 7:45 am and got out last night at 9!

Here's some booth photos to tide you over. I'm exhausted, there's laundry and mail and unpacking and of course going through my photos to get bloggy updates ready. Plus my girl is home, and so is Binzer.

Here's my new market bag. Can't wait for Sample Spree. And for getting together with old friends and new friends and blog friends. But it's not all about buying stuff and meeting up....well I mean let's face it, a lot of it is, but its about enjoying the electric excitement of the whole event, the business of our favorite pass time. I have a big new camera memory card and I'm ready to document it!

Of course there are still unanswered questions around town. Like what is this?

And why are there pants on the fire hydrant in my neighbor's yard?

So did everyone have a good Mother's Day? It was low key around here. Lots of stuff going on with the whole garden clean up situation, then getting stuff ready for the trip... just not enough time to really enjoy the day with the Moms as well. Frankie has finals this week so she couldn't come home, so all moms agreed to wait until after market for a nice day around the house celebrating. Phew.

Another thing driving me crazy was my Sidekick3 met an untimely death. I'm not going to lie, it was on it's last legs with it's cracked face plate and all, but man I loved that phone. I would have used it till I couldn't read the screen if I had to. Unfortunately, I didn't have that chance. It took it's own life when it pitched itself out of my pocket. In the bathroom. Drowned. No phone. The end...

...until yesterday when we picked up a new Sidekick LX. I saw lots of cooler newer phones but I love the 'kick. I'm going to baby this one, it's in a case even. (well mostly because its an ugly brown, what's with that people?)

Oh look, I have mail! Gotta go!

Time is on my side

My roses are all in bloom now. In fact almost bloomed out already! The fluctuation in temperatures seems to have confused them.

This is the kind of person I want to be, the kind who has flower arrangements on the patio, like I just stopped there after some gardening. In my Cath Kidston gloves. In that pretty way think other people live their lives.

You know, they say , gee my life seems like chaos, and then you peel back that layer of chaos and find a well ordered life. Sadly, when you peel back the layer of chaos around here, there's just more chaos. I'm not a very good housekeeper. But I really admire those who are. I just don't have it in me. These roses are part of a bunch I got from Alex yesterday. I pulled up at her house to drop off some things I'd sewn for her and she was out front picking roses. She has a beautiful rose garden, and just a lovely home and yard. It's very peaceful to be there.

This weekend we're treating ourselves to a yard clean up. Bret works long hours and I have been busy and we've let the yard go wild. So come Saturday evening, my yard will be free of weeds. We're not good at keeping up, but we'll give it a try.

So Saturday, I will be that person, at least for an evening!

How Cute is My Bunny?

Well in fact my bunny is the bomb. She runs around in figure eight patterns, and has a freakish ability to jump. All the magazines and blogs say bunnies are delicate.. right! Recently I gave her a bath and she jumped out of the tub onto my back and took off to her new hiding place under my IKEA couch.

When I start to get ready for bed I put a towel on my bed and she stretches out her legs just like a dog. She never does it when my mom and dad are here, but I have the pictures to prove it!

I promise to start making a story book of Binzer’s hilarious actions. She is currently hiding under the bed with her head poked out to feel the space heater on her face. That crazy bunny.

Mom brought her timothy hay and she will not stop eating it; she’s turning out to be a fatty. I plan to be like that old lady in those commercials with the doggy stairs by the bed, only mine with be for the bunny. I also want to get her a collar when she matures. It's all about the accessories you know.

Well that about sums up the bunny and I this morning. I have essays to write and Family Guy episodes to watch. My last class is May 14th, the same day mom goes to market. It’s kind of a bummer, but at least I’ll get a present when she gets home! She's a great mom like that.

Magazine Monday Morning

Yup, its coffee and magazines this morning peeps. And I have three here that are particularly yummy because they have quilts by some peoples we know!

First off, check out this pretty controlled scrappy quilt by Megan Johnson. I love the Lakehouse Fabrics in it. It looks so elegant. It appears in the McCalls Quilting America Loves Scrap Quilts special publication.

Next up is another delightful quilt from Monica in the latest Quilts and More, Summer 2008. Darling!

In the MORE category is another friend in the magazine, this delightful group from Holly Holderman. I love how those Lakehouse letters look on the pillow and who doesn't love that Cherry Baby.

Last but not least is the latest Designer Quilts Magazine. Featured in it is a quilt designed by Alex and made by me!!!! Diana did the wonderful quilting.

Went to see Frankie and Binzer yesterday. We had a blast. Frankie is sending along some cute bunny photos.. Binzer checking her schedule to see if she has time for us.. look her ears have dropped! No more side pony for her.

My brain hurts

Today while I was out I saw a guy who had a witch doctory head looking thing hanging from his car mirror. I really tried to get a picture. Then I really really tried to get this out of my head.

Olfa Circle Cutter

My friend Roseann sent me this Olfa Circle Cutter some time ago, and I'm finally getting around to using it. What a fun toy!

There is a learning curve with this tool. Like I need to learn to read the instructions. You don't need to use two hands, it's a one handed operation. And it works great.

It could just be me, but I had some tiny bits of skipping, but over all easily remedied. I'm having a blast with this tool.

This time I'm packing a tiny project to take to market, yoyo making supplies! Ever since I saw that little yoyo mat on Vickie's blog I've been dying to make one. Except the short attention span version. Much smaller. We'll see how it goes. I'm not famous for this kind of thing at all.

Quilt Sampler Magazine

Quilt Sampler is back and I'm thrilled to say its a wonderful issue chock full of beautiful stores and great projects.

One of the best parts of the this magazine is the fact that my friend Jane's store The Quilter's Inn, is featured! Congratulations to Jane and all the great people she has working with her!!

If you can't check out The Quilter's Inn in person, you'll be able to browse the booth at Quilt Festival in Houston this year!! I've seen some of the kits they're making up and they're great!!
